 Each year 3.9 million girls are at risk of undergoing the practice of female genital mutilation (FGM). FGM is considered a rite of passage to adulthood in many communities, but it seriously jeopardizes the lives and futures of girls and girls, forcing them to become wives and mothers too soon. ANIECEB works with Kenyan communities to replace this practice with Alternative Rites of Passage (ARP). By raising awareness among communities and girls about the risks of mutilation and their rights, we have already managed to save more than 17,000 girls.
